Recycling
HOT TOPIC

Kristina Eklund Ryan, Associate Art Director

The simplest and most cost effective way to do something good for the environment is to recycle. Coffee grounds are highly recyclable and useful for everything from plant fertilizer to beauty regimens. A great way to make a positive impact in your neighborhood is to offer your used coffee grounds free to your customers as a recycling program. Not only does this reduce your waste, but you’re also helping the environment and providing an extra service to your customers!

Here are a few tips on how used coffee grounds can be recycled:
1. Sprinkle grounds around plants or flowers for a slow release of nitrogen. Plants love coffee grounds and will thrive!
2. Dilute the used coffee grounds with water to get a fast acting yet gentle fertilizer.
3. Mix the grounds with potting soil and use for your plants or flowers.
4. Use the used coffee grounds as mulch by spreading a 1-inch thick layer around your plants. An added bonus is that the coffee mulch also deters bugs!
5. Use the grounds and filters to compost. Not only are the grounds rich in nutrients, but also the coffee filters will break down quickly.

These are just a few tips that you can share with your customers or utilize yourself. If you have any other tips on how to recycle used coffee grounds, we’d love to hear from you! If you have any questions or need some advice on how to implement a coffee grounds recycling program, contact your customer care representative. (Source: www.sustainableenterprises.com)
